Determining if A Relationship Exists Between Feelings Toward Conservatives and Beliefs Regarding Gay Marriage
Analysis Report Summary:
To determine whether there was a relationship between feelings toward conservatives and beliefs regarding a gay persons' right to marry one another, a linear regression was performed. The regression was not statistically significant where α = .05, B = -0.005, t(287) = -1.35, p=0.18, p > .05, r2 = .006. This indicates that there is a negative linear relationship between feelings toward conservatives and beliefs regarding a gay persons' right to marry one another, such that it is predicted that an individual’s warmth toward conservatives will not affect their beliefs regarding a gay persons’ right to marry one another. Feelings towards conservatives accounts for approximately 0.6% of the variance in beliefs regarding a gay persons' right to marry one another. These results indicate that there is a non-significant relationship between feelings toward conservatives and beliefs regarding a gay persons' right to marry one another. To improve support for gay marriages rights, implementation of inclusivity education within schools may prove helpful.
